What “earn screen time” should mean
A serious earn screen time product is not a passive report. Google’s Digital Wellbeing (or similar charts) can show where hours went. An earn-time app adds friction: opening TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or games you chose should require a budget you funded with movement.
Three signals show up again and again in category feedback:
- Paywall before the core loop — Users cannot block a single app or earn a minute until they hit a hard subscription offer.
- Unfair minute spend — A “budget” burns on a timer even when you are not inside the locked app, so earned time feels stolen.
- Freemium confusion — “Free” listings that never let you try the earn → unlock path destroy trust fast.
RepLock’s product truth: freemium with a usable starter loop; Pro expands blocked apps, exercises, weekly insights, and themes. We do not claim unlimited free blocked apps or all exercises without Pro limits.

02
Step 1 — Pick apps worth gating
Open RepLock and choose the distractions that actually own your thumb—usually short-form video and social, sometimes games. You are building an adult self-control gate, not a parental device lockdown.
Keep the first list short. One or two high-impulse apps prove the loop faster than blocking half your launcher. That also respects freemium limits on how many apps you can gate before Pro.

03
Step 2 — Turn on protection the product actually uses
RepLock’s block path uses Android Accessibility detection plus a fullscreen overlay gate on the apps you selected. You will see permission prompts for Accessibility and related display permissions. That can feel invasive—category reviews say so constantly.
What the permission is for: detect when a selected app comes to the foreground and present the overlay gate so you must earn or spend minutes. What it is not: Device Owner parental control, absolute unbypassable lock, VPN/DNS website blocking, or a promise that notifications and every web surface are sealed.
If you want the trust-side deep dive—overlay vs parental myths—read App blocker honesty: Accessibility overlay limits.

04
Step 3 — Earn screen time wallet minutes by moving
This is the differentiator versus timer-only wellbeing apps. In RepLock you earn minutes by:
- Camera pose workouts — push-ups, squats, plank, jumping jacks, lunges, sit-ups, burpees, high knees (availability depends on free vs Pro exercise set).
- Step walks — on-device step counting via activity recognition.
Lighting and framing matter. On-device counting is not an AI personal trainer and does not coach form or prevent injury. If mid-set drops happen (a common category complaint), reposition so your full movement is in frame, reduce glare, and finish the set before opening the blocked app again.
Example earn path: five push-ups credited → minutes land in Today’s screen time wallet balance → progress ring updates. Or a short walk credits steps into the same wallet. Either path funds unlocks; neither is a medical fitness program.

05
Step 4 — Spend with unlock packs (not endless free access)
When a gated app opens, you spend what you earned. RepLock uses unlock packs—5, 10, 20, or custom minutes—under an active pass. That matches the VoC demand for true spend-on-use minutes: the wallet should move when you choose to unlock, not silently evaporate because a background timer was “running.”
Habits that keep the wallet fair:
- Earn a small stack before you open the highest-temptation app.
- Prefer a 5-minute pack for a quick check; save larger packs for intentional sessions.
- Watch Today’s balance and streak so the cost of scroll stays visible.
Emergency PIN bypass exists with a daily use limit for real exceptions. That is a safety valve—not proof of an unbreakable lock. Uninstalling the app or disabling Accessibility stops protection; we state that plainly.

06
Freemium without bait-and-switch language
Category anger spikes when “free” means you cannot run the earn loop at all. RepLock’s framing:
- Free tier: try blocking and earning within published limits.
- RepLock Pro: more blocked apps, full exercise set, weekly insights, themes—billed through RevenueCat / Google Play.
We do not promise addiction cures, guaranteed focus outcomes, or clinical behavior change. The product adds physical friction before distraction; results still depend on the rules you keep.

How we tested this in RepLock
On 2026-07-17, Morrowline Apps walked the earn → wallet → unlock pack loop on the Android Google Play build (com.pushup.screentime.replock). We started from the app picker, enabled Accessibility gating, credited minutes through a short pose set and a step walk, then spent a 5-minute unlock pack on a gated social app. Minutes landed in Today’s wallet after movement; the overlay required an active pass before the gated app opened.
Overlay gating stays app-level—not VPN, web, or reliable notification lockdown. Camera counting can miss reps if framing is poor; we reframed and retried. Emergency PIN and uninstall remain possible exits. We verified claims against the RepLock product brief and forbidden-claims list. Outline and draft were editorially assisted; product constraints were checked by Morrowline Apps on the date above.

FAQ
How does an earn screen time app differ from Digital Wellbeing?
Wellbeing charts report usage. An earn-time app gates selected apps and makes access cost minutes you funded with workouts or steps.
What is a screen time wallet?
In RepLock it is the Today balance of minutes you earned. You spend that balance through unlock packs when you open a gated app—intentional access, not an endless free pass.
Can I earn screen time with push-ups only?
Push-ups are one path. RepLock also supports other pose exercises (set depends on free vs Pro) and step walks. Counting is on-device pose detection—not a trainer.
Is the earn screen time app free forever?
RepLock is freemium. You can run a limited loop on the free tier; Pro expands caps. Check in-app Play pricing—never trust a store listing that implies unlimited free blocking.
Install RepLock from Google Play, gate one distraction, earn a small wallet balance, and spend a 5-minute pack once. For how the overlay gate differs from parental locks, see App blocker honesty: Accessibility overlay limits.
